Functionalism at Halliday, An Analytical Study

Abstract
This study purposes to define the functional terminology, to reveal its first roots in the West, to clarify the functional characteristics of Haliday and its sources, identify the language functions according to Haliday. The researcher used the analytical method in studying functionality term, its origin, sources and the language functions according to Haliday. The study was divided into an introduction that included the importance of the study and previous studies and four axes, the first axis included an introduction to an introductory profile on Michael Haliday, then the definition of functional language and terminology. The second axis discussed the roots and origin of functionality in the past and present, third axis handled with functional characteristics according to Haliday, the fourth axis concentrate on functional sources andits functions in language, and a conclusion that included the main findings of the study.
