The Role of Digital Platforms in Developing Remote Work Style: A Study of Umm Al-Qura University’s Experience During the Corona Crisis

Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to know the role of digital platforms in developing the method of working remotely at Umm Al-Qura University during the corona crisis, to try to know the ability of the administrative staff to use technology to work remotely at Umm Al-Qura university, and to reveal the contribution of actual applications practiced in working remotely at Umm Al-Qura university. Methods: The current study uses the descriptive analytical method. The study tool is a questionnaire which is used to collect data. Results: The study found that the Blackboard, virtual classroom and Webex learning environment limits classroom gatherings, and the university administration believes in the role of digital platforms and their activation. The university is working to broadcast educational and academic content via digital platforms to benefit students in light of social distancing due to the corona crisis. Conclusions: The necessity of encouraging faculty members and students to benefit from all available assessment tools for e-learning and distance education, and that the deanship of e-learning at Umm Al-Qura university work to implement specialized training programs in educational institutions due to the amazing development in the field of e-learning and providing the technical knowledge and skills that faculty members and students need.
