Abstract
Objectives: The aim of the current study was to identify the prevalence ratio of sympathetic pregnancy syndrome and the level of personal distress among Jordanian expectant fathers in the Irbid governorate. The correlation between them, and to know whether there are differences due to the variables (age, number of pregnancies, duration of marriage, and whether the pregnancy was by implantation). Methods: The study used a descriptive and correlational approach. To achieve the goals of this study, a sympathetic pregnancy syndrome questionnaire was used and a personal distress scale. They were applied to a sample of (382) Jordanian expectant fathers and were chosen by convenience sampling Method. Results: The results of the study showed that the prevalence of sympathetic pregnancy syndrome among expectant fathers in the Irbid governorate is (53.10%). There were no statistically significant differences in the prevalence of sympathetic pregnancy syndrome due to the variables of age, number of birth times, and pregnancies through implantation, except the variable of the duration of marriage which was statistically significant in favor of fathers whose marriage duration was less than five years. The level of personal distress among expectant fathers was average. There were no statistically significant differences in the level of personal distress due to the variables (age, duration of marriage, number of births, and whether the pregnancy was through implantation). Conclusions: Introducing this phenomenon and generalizing it to psychologists is essential whether in their university courses at various levels or in their workplaces.
