Abstract

Objectives: The study examines the poem "Naatatka Umamah Illa Su'alan" by the poet Amr ibn Qumay'ah. The selection of this poem is motivated by the manifestation of narrative elements through the poetic tableaux it encompasses, as well as by the text's richness in expressive potential and symbolic signs that call for a critical approach capable of decoding their meanings and uncovering the underlying connections between the binary oppositions articulated in the poem's discourse. Methodology: This study adopts the semiotic approach to analyze the poem, as it provides a framework for deconstructing its linguistic, stylistic, and symbolic structures. This approach enables an exploration of the poem's deeper levels of signification, moving beyond its direct meaning to uncover its indirect and implicit meanings. Through this analytical perspective, the researcher seeks to offer a novel interpretation of the poem and situate it within the framework of contemporary critical approaches, which employ distinctive analytical procedures to investigate and identify the manifestations of literary creativity. Conclusion: The study concluded that the poem, through its three tableaux, reveals-upon the application of semiotic analysis- that the poet relied on the structuring of binary oppositions in his language to construct his imagery and convey the intended meaning through this stylistic approach, among other findings.
