Abstract

Objectives: The study reflects indicators of financial inclusion and levels of digital transactions in Jordan, alongside the development of digital infrastructure, and highlights the existence of tangible potential for issuing central bank digital currencies, which would contribute to achieving financial and economic stability. Methods: The study employed both the inductive and deductive approaches and concluded that a gradual and sequential strategy should be adopted in the issuance process. The study also relied on official data published by the Central Bank of Jordan covering the period from 2013 to 2024. Results: The findings indicate that issuing a central bank digital currency in Jordan requires a strong focus on strengthening digital infrastructure, developing innovative technologies that support secure and efficient digital currency transactions, and raising public awareness of the importance of digital transactions and the transition toward central bank digital currencies. Conclusions: The study concludes that central bank digital currencies play a key role in enhancing financial inclusion and supporting monetary stability, particularly in light of the growing spread of virtual digital currencies such as Bitcoin, which in turn positively affects the efficiency of payment systems.
