Abstract
The aim of the research is to identify the role of school counseling in reducing bullying behavior among middle grade students from the teachers' point of view in Jeddah city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A 65 middle-grade teachers were recruited to complete a questionnaire consisting of 40 items that covers four dimensions. The results showed that the teachers' assessment of the role of school counseling in reducing bullying behavior among middle-grade students was of a high degree, with an average of 3.90 with a percentage of 78%, and the dimension of the 'school counseling role towards students to reduce the phenomenon of bullying" came in the first order with a mean of 4.65, a percentage of 93%, and with a very high degree of appreciation, followed by the dimension of the 'role of school counseling in urging and directing teachers to reduce the phenomenon of bullying', with an average of 4.61, a percentage of 92%, and a very high degree of appreciation. The dimension that focuses on the "role of school counseling in activating the relationship between the school and local community institutions to reduce the phenomenon of bullying" ranked third with an average of 3.42, percentage of 68% with degree of appreciation. The dimension of 'enhancing relationship between school and families to reduce bullying behavior" came last with an average of 2.91, percentage of 58% and intermediate degree of appreciation. However, gender and experience of teachers were not significant factors in determining the teacher's assessment. The study recommended integrating the role of the school and the family to reduce bullying behavior among students, and to develop preventive counseling programs that protect students from violent and bullying behaviors, and to invite educators to develop strategies and plans that address the phenomenon of bullying and incorporate it within the curriculum.
