Abstract
The study aimed The Effectiveness of A Training Program Based on develop the sensory and cognitive skills for people with autism through the use of the TEACCH program. The study sample consisted of eight children with autism. The sample was divided into two groups of children aged between 4 - 13 years old, and each group consisted of four children. One was considered as a control group, the other was considered as an experimental group. For the purpose of the study, the researchers prepared two inventories, one designed to measure thes Sensory manifestations; hearing, sight, and affective skills; the other one designed to measure the sensory and cognitive skills for the audiovisual aspect according to the sensory and cognitive skills section in the TEACCH program.A training program was developed consisting of training sessions to be applied individually to each child. The data indicated that the validity and reliability semantics were high. The tool was used to apply pre and post tests in addition to the TEACCH program. Hypotheses in this study were tested by Paired Samples Test (T-test). The following result were concluded: - There were no significant differences between the means of the experimental group in the pre and post tests of the sensory skills according to (α ≤0.05). - There were no significant differences between the means of the two samples (experimental and control groups) at (α ≤0.05). - There were no significant differences between the means for the experimental group for the post and the retention tests at (α ≤0.05). - There were significant differences in the means for the experimental group between the pre and post tests for sensory skills at (α ≤0.05). The differences were in favor of the experimental group after applying the program. According to the previous results, it is recommended that this program can be applied by centers that care for autistic children, as well as being adopted as an inexpensive and effective intervention program. It is also recommended to train children’s parents to apply this program, in addition to establishing national centers for autistic children across the country.
