Abstract
Objectives: The study aims to explore the pragmatics of deictics in Surah Al-Ma'idah, focusing on first-level deictics that only acquire meaning within the context of discourse. These deictics include personal, temporal, spatial, social, and textual deictics. Methods: The research employed a descriptive-analytical approach, describing and analyzing the use of deictics in Surah Al-Ma'idah. It examines various types of deictics (personal, temporal, spatial, social, and textual) within the context of the Qur'anic text. Conclusions: The study concluded that different types of deictics contributed to revealing the deep meanings of the text, such as the awe, greatness, and majesty of Allah, the fear, panic, and cowardice of the people of Moses, and the elements of rebuke and intimidation. These deictics played a crucial role in shaping the pragmatic aspects of the text, establishing significant semantic relationships, and contributing to the cohesion and unity of the text, studying the various types of deictics in Surah Al-Ma'idah helps in understanding how these deictics influence semantic and pragmatic meanings. It also illustrates their role in ensuring textual cohesion and linking linguistic meanings to the communicative and religious functions of the Qur'anic text, thus offering a deeper interpretation of Surah Al-Ma'idah.
