Abstract
Objectives: This study seeks to trace the application of a fundamental uṣūlī issue, namely the principle of mafhum al-mukhālafah (argument from implication), within this commentary in the sections on acts of worship and transactions. The aim is to clarify how the Shaykh employed the concept and to what extent his usage aligns with the rules he established. Methods: The study adopts descriptive, inductive, and analytical methodologies in addressing the problem. It first outlines the key principles related to mafhum al-mukhālafah according to the Shaykh, then examines several applications in worship and transactions, comparing the employment of the concept with the established rules. Conclusions: The study concluded that the Shaykh's application of mafhum al-mukhālafah in al-Sharḥ al-Mumti' was generally consistent with the principles he articulated in his other works, especially his uṣūlī commentaries. The only notable exception concerns the issue of the non-universality of the concept: he applied it in certain contexts while refraining in others, which may indicate that his position on the non-generality of mafhum al-mukhālafah was not absolute.
