Abstract
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of all creation and prayers and peace be upon our Master Muhammad, his family and all his companions. Welcome to the special edition of the Yarmouk University College of Law Conference, "The Fourth Industrial Revolution from a Legal Perspective: Challenges and Solutions," which took place on July 22-23, 2024, at Yarmouk University in Jordan. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is based on a set of complex digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, self-driving vehicles, blockchain technologies and other modern technologies that have imposed on us a new, tangible reality in which all aspects of our lives have been affected. This reality has, in turn, produced a set of ethical, humanitarian and economic challenges that require specialists to find flexible legal solutions and controls capable of balancing between adopting this tremendous technological development and protecting the rights of people dealing with these technologies. There is no doubt that today's legal professionals face a major challenge in confronting these complex technological techniques and the resulting legal challenges. This rapid and limitless development in the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution requires legislators and legal specialists to keep pace with this accelerating pace of technology and the legal issues and disputes it will produce that were previously unknown in the era of traditional transactions. This requires the existence of an advanced and flexible legislative system capable of keeping pace with this rapid development and responding to such challenges and legal problems that arise from the use of these technologies. Hence, the conference of the Faculty of Law at Yarmouk University came to keep pace with these challenges and present a set of discussions and legal solutions to frame the use of these technologies and prevent their misuse in a way that harms the rights of those dealing with them. This conference addressed a set of topics distributed over the course of two days, July 22 and 23, 2024, and focused on: the legal challenges resulting from the use of various technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the protection of intellectual property rights and the protection of personal data, and international solidarity and cooperation in confronting the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. A group of researchers and professors specialized in various conference topics participated in the conference activities. 21 scientific papers were presented in the conference sessions by a group of researchers from several countries: Morocco, the Emirates, Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, Iraq, in addition to Jordan. The conference is proud to agree with the International Journal of Comparative Legal and Jurisprudential Studies issued by the Refaad for Studies and Research to publish the research papers participating in the conference based on the researcher's desire. In this regard, we cannot but thank all those who contributed to the success of this conference, especially the university administration represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Islam Massad, and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Yousef Obeidat, as well as the employees of the Public Relations Department at the university. We thank all the members of the committees formed in the Faculty of Law to organize the conference, especially the members of the Preparatory Committee represented by: Prof. Dr. Naeem Al-Atoum and Dr. Abdessalam Alfadel. Thanks to all those who contributed with us to the success of this conference, from researchers and attendees, who enriched the conference with their valuable research and contributions, which led to achieving the conference's objectives and presenting recommendations that contribute to developing the Jordanian legislative system in a manner that keeps pace with the development of modern technological techniques.
